Switzerland is famous for its majestic mountains, the glacial lakes surrounding the mountains and for its excellence in manufacturing state of the art watches. Apart from the capital, which is Bern, Zurich is the most visited city in all of Switzerland. And not only is that Zurich the most visited city in the country, but all the canton is worth your time.
Arriving in Zurich is simple through the Kloten Airport and a simple booking with the airport transfer Zurich service.
The main attraction in Zurich is the lake with the same name and it stretches on several other towns and villages including Thalwil and Kusnacht. Tourists enjoy especially the lake because it is crystal clear and it is a hotspot for thrill-seekers and jet-ski riders. The lake was formed as the glaciers melted away, so swimming will be a little of a challenge as the water is cold as ice.
From the lake, you can admire the Swiss Alps and also enjoy a cup of coffee at one of the many restaurants that are scattered around the lake. If you’re done admiring the same view, you can choose to travel by ferry or by boat to the other towns around the lake and enjoy the sunshine from a different point of view.
The summit is located in the northern part of the city and it is a vantage point over the whole town and canton. From Uetliberg, you can see the mountains and you can even reach them if you’re going camping or hiking through the woods. The mountaintop can be reached from the city of Zurich by rail or by foot from Albisguetli, Triemli or Albisrieden.
The summit has a hotel near, named Uto Kulm with two towers, and one of them is accessible for a small fee and you can get even a better 360-degree view across the landscape.
The city center
Zurich is a big city and holds lots of attractions, from sophisticated coffee houses to the famous Swiss chocolate. If you’re a fan of shopping, be sure to check out the couture shops in the city as many designers opened prestigious shops here. The Bahnhofstrasse is the main road that goes across the city of Zurich and has its special characteristics from water fountains to public art expositions and shops where you can buy almost anything. The Limmatquai is yet another street packed full of window shops, handcrafted gifts. After the street, you cannot miss the Rathaus, which is the Town Hall and it overhangs across the river Limmat with its wonderful baroque architecture.
Kunsthaus Zürich is the museum of fine arts and one of Europe’s top art museums. It was built in the 17th century and houses lots of paintings even from Salvador Dali.
Needless to say, the entire Zurich canton is worth visiting on any time of the year and new attractions emerge every day, making this Swiss region a tourist hotspot, gathering people from around the world.
